Letter from the Principal
72309_24855_0.jpgWelcome to Oakhurst Elementary School. We are a kindergarten through third grade school located at 175 Mead Road in Decatur, Georgia. We are also housing a PreK class for the 09-10 school year. Oakhurst is one of the three K-3 schools in City Schools of Decatur. Oakhurst is a charming three-story brick structure that was built in 1915. Four classrooms were added in 1991 to accommodate a growing enrollment and an innovative early childhood education focus, and the school experienced a complete renovation in 2000. Our new addition and renovation blend well with our original structure, and we now have a beautiful facility in the midst of a small fast-growing innovative community and city.

Oakhurst is located in Decatur's southwest quadrant in the Oakhurst Community. It is only a few blocks from Agnes Scott College, downtown Decatur, as well as the newly renovated Oakhurst District with its small parks and many small charming family - friendly restaurants. Our current enrollment is approximately 300 students. Our staff members are constantly engaged in professional learning, and strive to foster a partnership with home and community.

Oakhurst Elementary School, home of the Oakhurst Owls, is truly a community school. We strive for excellence as we challenge and meet the needs of all of our learners. The atmosphere is one of dedication, friendship and cooperation among staff, parents, students, guardians and community members. With a continued commitment to implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards through the Expeditionary Learning reform model (www.elschools.org), we work together to ensure that all who come to Oakhurst leave each day having grown socially and intellectually and are excited about learning.

I invite you to visit Oakhurst Elementary and I am sure you will agree that it is "One of the Best Little Schools in the World." Thank you for visiting our website.

Sincerely,

Mary Mack
Principal
